Academic materials disappear. Students fall behind.
Across South Africa and much of the developing world, students manage their education across WhatsApp groups, loose printouts, borrowed textbooks, and shared USB drives. When a device is lost or replaced — which happens constantly — years of study material vanish with it.
Beyond storage, students lack affordable tools for structured exam preparation, AI-powered assistance, and direct access to qualified tutors. The tools that exist are either expensive, fragmented, or require reliable high-bandwidth internet that many students simply don't have.
SchoolBag is our answer: a single platform where everything lives, everything is accessible, and every academic tool a student needs is built in from the start.
A persistent academic locker for every student
Our mission is simple: give every student a secure, organised, and intelligent digital space that follows them through their entire education journey — from Grade 4 all the way through Tertiary level and beyond.
We believe that good academic tools should not be a privilege. SchoolBag is free to start, works on mobile devices, and is designed from the ground up for low-bandwidth environments and first-time smartphone users.
Our principles
Persistence over convenience
Student data should outlast any single device. Everything uploaded to SchoolBag is stored securely in the cloud and accessible from any device the student logs into — today, next year, and five years from now.
AI that serves, not replaces
Our AI tools — the Academic Assistant, Binary Agent, and AI Tutor — are built to help students learn faster and more effectively, not to do their work for them. The AI summarises, explains, and generates practice material from the student's own uploaded content.
Mobile-first by design
The majority of our users access SchoolBag from a mobile phone, often on a limited data plan. Every page, every feature, and every interaction is designed at 375px width first and then scaled up — not the other way around.
Transparency with data
Students own their files. We don't sell user data, train AI on student content without permission, or lock users into proprietary formats. Files can be downloaded at any time, in their original format.
Designed for the full education ecosystem
SchoolBag is not just a student app. It is a platform designed around the complete learning environment — where students, teachers, assessors, tutors, and institutions all have a role to play.
Students use it to store notes, submit assignments, study with flashcards, and prepare for exams. Teachers and facilitators use it to create and distribute assignments, build exam papers, and track student progress. Assessors and moderators use it to manage portfolios of evidence and generate compliance reports. Institutions use it to manage staff, broadcast announcements, and monitor attendance across classes.
Every role is distinct, role-gated at the application level, and designed so that each user sees only what is relevant to their position in the learning environment.
Built for reliability and speed
SchoolBag is engineered for performance on the devices and networks that South African students actually use. The platform is lightweight by design — pages load fast on entry-level smartphones, work on limited data plans, and degrade gracefully when connectivity is poor.
Every file uploaded to SchoolBag is stored securely on our servers and served through a controlled delivery layer — files are never exposed directly. User data is isolated per account, encrypted in transit, and never shared with third parties.
SchoolBag's AI assistant is designed with flexibility in mind. We continuously improve the AI experience for users, ensuring they always get accurate, helpful responses — whether answering questions, summarising notes, or generating study materials.
