Terms of Service

Effective date: 1 May 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SchoolBag platform ("Service"), operated by SchoolBag ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use SchoolBag. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has consented to your use of the Service. Institutions registering on behalf of learners confirm that appropriate consent has been obtained.

2. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised access. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Upload, share, or transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, abusive, or infringes any third-party rights.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' data or any part of the Service's infrastructure.
• Use the Service to send unsolicited communications (spam).
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or create derivative works of the Service.
• Scrape, harvest, or otherwise collect data from the Service without our prior written consent.

4. Content Ownership

You retain ownership of all academic materials, notes, and files ("User Content") you upload to SchoolBag. By uploading User Content you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, display, and transmit that content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not claim ownership of your academic work.

5. AI Features

The AI Assistant feature is powered by third-party large-language-model providers. AI-generated responses are provided for academic assistance only and must not be relied upon as professional, legal, medical, or financial advice. Token-based usage limits apply as disclosed in the platform. We reserve the right to modify AI credit allocations with reasonable notice.

6. Marketplace

SchoolBag provides a marketplace for educational goods. We are not a party to any transaction between buyers and sellers. All listings are the sole responsibility of the seller. Payment processing (when available) will be governed by a separate agreement with the applicable payment provider.

7. Storage Quotas

Each account is subject to a storage quota as disclosed in the platform. We reserve the right to adjust quotas with 30 days' notice. Files that exceed the quota may not be uploaded, but existing files will not be deleted solely for exceeding the quota unless required by law or a breach of these Terms.

8. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. You may delete your account at any time via Settings > Account > Delete Account. Upon deletion, your personal data is permanently removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free access. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all implied warranties including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SchoolBag's aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you via email or an in-platform notice at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
